Dons boss McGhee vows to carry on

Mark McGhee vowed to carry on as Aberdeen boss in the wake of the 9-0 thrashing by Celtic - the biggest defeat in the club's history.[LNB] In a remarkable first half Dons' skipper Paul Hartley and Hoops defender Thomas Rogne were sent packing by referee Alan Muir as the home side romped to a 4-0 lead with doubles from Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes, the Irishman netting two penalties.[LNB]Both Celtic strikers completed their hat-tricks after the break as a strike from Joe Ledley, an own goal by Pittodrie substitute Josh Magennis and a late penalty from Parkhead substitute Paddy McCourt left the Dons also on the wrong end of the SPL's record scoreline.[LNB]However, McGhee, who is in his second season in charge of the club where he was a hero as a player, said: "I want to be the manager of Aberdeen Football Club. I have a little group of players here that can do okay.[LNB]"It went horribly wrong today but it doesn't change my opinion of that and as long as I'm the manager I will go out for the next game and then the next game until someone tells me different.[LNB]"I know what the board and chairman were thinking before this game and I have no idea if that result changes their opinion.[LNB]"I have been doing this a long time and it was only one game, as horrible as it was. It is only three points.[LNB]"It was a freakish result. Not in the sense that Celtic deserved to batter us but freakish in the sense that it was the first time in my career that I've ever lost by anything like this.[LNB]"But I have got to imagine that I am going to be the manager of Aberdeen on Tuesday night against Inverness and I have to prepare my team.[LNB]"I will be in tomorrow morning training and I have to go through that door in the morning and give them a message and give them a story that they will believe will take them out on Tuesday night and win a football match.[LNB]"I will go up the road, lie in the dark and stare at the ceiling and then get up in the morning and go down there and make it work."[LNB]Former Celtic striker McGhee, whose team have taken only four points from the last 27, is hoping the Dons fans retain their faith.[LNB]"I hope that the fans who were here will think about that first half hour and what might have been," he said.[LNB]"I'm not saying that if we had scored first we would have won the game but we showed we had a plan that was reasonable and working to a degree. After that we were embarrassed.[LNB]"I don't think anyone hid. We just weren't good enough. It was one of those games where everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.[LNB]"But for the first half hour it was okay and we have to take that in to the Inverness game and forget about this.[LNB]"I don't expect there will be any big hangovers.[LNB]"We will put this behind us and if we get three points on Tuesday night it will be the three points we didn't get today and we can do that."[LNB]Neil Lennon was understandably delighted at seeing his side leapfrog Rangers by two points at the top of the table, albeit the champions have the chance to redress the balance against St Mirren on Sunday.[LNB]"It was a wonderful day and a brilliant performance," the Celtic boss said.[LNB]"It will have done the goal difference a power of good and the players a power of good and I was delighted for the supporters.[LNB]"To score nine against any opposition is a tremendous achievement and it is very rare that that happens.[LNB]"We were ruthless. I couldn't fault the players, they were very professional and to keep a clean sheet again was very pleasing. It was a good day all round."[LNB]Parkhead legend Henrik Larsson was watching from the stand as his former club ran riot and Lennon said: "I don't know if it was a coincidence but hopefully some of his magic rubbed off today."[LNB]Stokes revealed that both he and Hooper were rewarded with a match ball.[LNB]The former Sunderland striker said: "I was delighted to get my first hat-trick for Celtic. Gary and I got a ball each after the game.[LNB]"He wanted to take the second penalty when he was on a hat-trick but I knew if had scored we would both have the chance to get the hat-trick."[LNB]
