Dons boss backs Miller to find net

The Dons striker has failed to score in his last seven games since netting a double against Kilmarnock in January. But Calderwood is confident Miller will return to finding the back of the net before too long. "I dont't think you can call it a goal drought and he has been very close for us on a few occasions," he said. "He has earned himself a reputation as an international striker and rightly so. For me, the problem is that we aren't creating enough chances for him. "But if he gets a chance he will score - you don't need to worry about that." Calderwood was critical of Pittodrie's playing surface after his side's goalless draw at the weekend with Kilmarnock. And the Aberdeen boss is looking forward to seeing his side get the chance to return to their passing game on the lush turf at St Mirren Park. "I was at the ground recently and it looks fabulous," he said. "It is a wonderful playing surface and you can play the ball at pace there. I think our flair players like Sone (Aluko) have found it difficult at home in the past couple of games to get one-on-one with opponents. "When the pitch is like that you are probably better to play away from home because you don't need to take the game to the opposition as much." The Dons have gone five games without a win in the Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League but Calderwood believes his side have performed better than their recent run of results suggests. "The last two teams we have played against have been very pleased to come away with a draw," he said. "I thought we played very well against Dundee United and on Saturday against Kilmarnock it was difficult with the pitch but I felt we were in the ascendancy throughout. "The boys are trying everything at the moment so I can't fault them for that." The Dons manager has warned his players to expect a reaction from St Mirren after their 7-0 thrashing against Celtic at the weekend. Calderwood added: "Things like that can happen in football. "They were 1-0 down and then had Jack Ross sent off who has been one of their best players all season. After Celtic drew at Motherwell last week it was always going to be a very difficult game for St Mirren. "But Gus MacPherson has got a very good bunch of professionals there and he will be looking for them to get back on track tomorrow night." Aberdeen 11/8, St Mirren 2/1, Draw 9/4
