Diamond feels rough after cup exit

The Dons were knocked out of the competition 4-2 on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes at Pittodrie in Wednesday night's quarter-final replay. And after losing 4-3 to Queen of the South in the semi-final stage of the competition last season, defender Diamond revealed his heartbreak at going through another Scottish Cup loss so close to the final. "It is a major chance gone for us so it is a sore one to take," he said. "It is going to be hard to get over this defeat but there is no point mopping around feeling sorry for ourselves. We need to rally together now. "The Queen of the South result was a big disappointment but we managed to bounce back from that. And it is going to take big characters to do that again." The Dons defender said it was difficult to accept the defeat after his side had put so much into the tie, both in the initial game at East End Park earlier this month as well as last night's marathon match. He added: "When you put so much into a game, you want a reward at the end of it and we never got that, which makes it a really sore one for us. "The bottom line is we are out of the cup and full credit to Dunfermline. I wish them all the best for their semi-final."
