Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood slammed his players after the Dons slumped to an embarrassing 3-1 defeat at Kilmarnock on Sunday.
Calderwood had praised his team in the wake of the UEFA Cup exit at the hands of Bayern Munich three days earlier, but was in a completely different frame of mind after the Rugby Park debacle.
He said after the defeat: "We can't use a European hangover as an excuse. We wanted to be there again but we're making life very difficult for ourselves now.
"The Bayern game has gone now. A couple of weeks ago we had everything there - a cup semi-final and Europe and now those two have gone.
"We have the Scottish Cup against the champions and holders Celtic which isn't going to be easy.
"We want to get back into Europe but if we don't win on Wednesday night then it will probably be impossible for us.
"We've made it really difficult now to get a place in the top six, never mind finishing third."
