The football club announced Loirston as their preferred site last month after experts conducted a year-long series of feasibility studies to compare its merits with those of the King's Links near Aberdeen beach. The site was approved by the council's policy and strategy committee in April, who voted in favour of the report from the Arena Project Team, which was set up jointly by the club and the council. Loirston has now earned the backing of full council and Aberdeen managing director Duncan Fraser told the club's official website: "We are very pleased that full council has voted to approve the Arena report. "Now we know Loirston is the site we need to focus on the planning process and to ensure we deliver a stadium that will be a fantastic venue for our fans and a real asset to the local community and city and shire."
