Clubs launch red card appeals
18 May 2009 - 13:29:25
Aberdeen and Rangers will both appeal the red cards shown to their players during Saturday's stormy encounter at Ibrox.
The Dons lost Charlie Mulgrew to an 18th-minute red card when he was involved in a head-butting incident with home striker Kyle Lafferty.
Meanwhile, the Gers were also reduced to ten men following the 40th-minute dismissal of Madjid Bougherra.
Should Rangers win their appeal then Bougherra would be free to play in Sunday's final and potential title-clinching clash with Dundee United at Tannadice.
"Bougherra slid in to try to get on the end of a pass by Stevie Whittaker and made contact with Aberdeen keeper Jamie Langfield," read a club statement.
"He was dismissed by referee Stuart Dougal on the advice of assistant Graham Chambers, who felt that the Rangers centre-back deliberately tried to kick Langfield.
"Rangers are hoping that when the incident is looked at again it will be decided that there was no such intent from the supporters' player of the year."
