Aberdeen left-back Richie Byrne is set to miss the rest of the season as he requires surgery on a ruptured hamstring tendon.
The 25-year-old Irishman has only featured three times for the Dons this term and is unlikely to recover in time to get back into the action until next term.
Boss Jimmy Calderwood told the Evening Express: "It is a rare injury. Richie has a tear of the tendon in his hamstring of around three inches.
"It looks as if they will have to stitch the tendon together and the club doctor has told me the injury is a tough one for players to recover from.
"He has been feeling the injury for a while and it has gradually been getting worse.
"The doctor says it is at least three months for Richie's recovery and a further six to eight weeks of rehab after that, so if we see him playing again at any point this season it will be a real bonus."
