Brown: We can't let home fans down

Craig Brown has urged his Aberdeen players not to let down their home support after treating their travelling fans to consecutive victories.

Scott Vernon's injury-time goal earned Aberdeen a 1-0 victory at Hamilton in front of almost 1,300 visiting supporters. Brown and Archie Knox have already taken more points in two games since arriving from Motherwell than their team accumulated in the previous 14.

"The fans can't be delighted with the performance but they can be delighted with the attitude of the players, the organisation and determination," said Brown. "The Dundee United game will be a very good one, I hope, and we don't want to let the fans down at home."

He added: "There will be so many sitting at home saying 'we couldn't get to Edinburgh, we couldn't get to Hamilton, so we'll go and see them this time'. So the message is quite clear to our guys - don't disappoint the bigger support.

"We will lose a game but hopefully not for a while. I'm hoping we can replicate what we did at Motherwell. That was very fortunate, we went 12 (SPL) games unbeaten there, but that's getting greedy."

The result saw basement boys Hamilton drift six points behind the rest of the SPL ahead of the new year derby against Motherwell.Accies have only scored 11 goals in 16 SPL games and their main centre-forward, Nigel Hasselbaink, could miss several more games with a knee injury.

Manager Billy Reid said: "In terms of effort and endeavour and how I set the team out, I wouldn't have changed it, but if we get a chance we've got to hit the target. We're not doing that enough, we've not got enough of a goal threat.

"We have a lot of work to do. We know the areas we need to strengthen. We have lost a lot of players and that's a big, big thing for us, especially when things are going against us.

"Hasselbaink has been a big miss, early in the season he was a handful.

"I've got two or three ideas I would like to happen in January but it comes down to finances at a club like Hamilton Accies. We have to duck and dive to bring in players that can make a difference, it's not easy."
