Brown envies Dons' strike power

Motherwell manager Craig Brown admits he envies Mark McGhee's striking options as he anticipates a much-improved Aberdeen arriving Fir Park.[LNB] McGhee failed to produce the same impact at Pittodrie last season as he had previously achieved when leading Motherwell into Europe twice.[LNB]The Dons netted just 36 goals in the Scottish Premier League as they laboured to a disappointing ninth-placed finish.[LNB]So McGhee set about trying to improve his side's attacking threat by signing strikers Josh Magennis, Scott Vernon and Andrius Velicka during the transfer window.[LNB]Brown's front three of Jamie Murphy, John Sutton and Nick Blackman have scored eight goals between them this season but he admits McGhee has greater strength in depth up front, especially with recent signing Esteban Casagolda injured.[LNB]"He was a striker himself and he knows what he wants up there," Brown said.[LNB]"Magennis played up front in Perth. Now he has Vernon coming into the side and I suspect he will play.[LNB]"He also has Chris Maguire and Darren Mackie who can play up front, they have been playing in wide areas.[LNB]"So he has good resources from which to choose and from that point of view we envy him a bit.[LNB]"We have good quality but not in abundance. We have excellent quality in Murphy, Sutton and Blackman as the main strikers here.[LNB]"But the young lad Casagolda has a bad knee injury, which will keep him out of contention for a week or two."[LNB]McGhee is yet to taste victory against Motherwell since leaving for the Granite City and saw his side suffer a 3-0 home defeat against Brown's men in January.[LNB]But Aberdeen go into the match in third place in the SPL, ahead of Motherwell on goal difference despite consecutive defeats by Kilmarnock and Dundee United.[LNB]Brown said: "I've seen the new-look Aberdeen and I've been impressed. I saw them win in Perth against St Johnstone.[LNB]"Aberdeen have some new players who have taken a minute or two to settle in but they are good quality players and will[LNB]certainly enhance the quality of Aberdeen this season.[LNB]"I don't expect them to struggle as they did for a period last season and therefore we're going to have a difficult game on Saturday."
