Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood is set to hand fit-again striker Darren Mackie a place on the bench against Motherwell on Saturday.
Last season's top scorer has not featured this term after suffering an Achilles injury during the pre-season trip to Holland but, after a successful return in the reserves' clash with Livingston in midweek, Calderwood has deemed him ready to make a comeback but only as a substitute.
If he does come on in the game Mackie will have returned two weeks ahead of schedule.
Calderwood told the Press & Journal: "I've not spoken to the medical staff yet about Darren but I'm sure he would have wanted to play last week even before the reserve match.
"He's doing all the work in training but for the sake of one match we will not take any chances, although he will be in the squad.
"If you have players such as Darren Mackie and John Stewart available, it makes my job a lot easier and puts pressure on whoever is playing to perform."
