Low blow for Dons

Nicky Low is a doubt for Aberdeen's League Cup quarter-final with Hamilton on Wednesday.

The midfielder could miss the Pittodrie clash after suffering a knock in a development game against Celtic last week.

Defenders Clark Robertson (thigh) and Russell Anderson (knee) remain unavailable.

Derek McInnes admits he is desperate to ensure last season's cup triumph is not a one-hit wonder.

The Dons manager ended the Reds' 19-year wait for a trophy when they beat Inverness in the final of last season's competition.

Dreams of an incredible trophy double, however, were dashed when they were knocked out of the William Hill Scottish Cup by eventual winners St Johnstone in the semi-final.

But McInnes has not called off his quest for silverware and wants his Pittodrie troops to embark on another run to the latter stages of this term's League Cup.

"We don't want to be, over the next few years, just talking about one cup final," McInnes told RedTV. "We want to be talking about the next one and hopefully this time next year we are talking having won another cup.

"I firmly believe we are good enough to win cups and be successful here. I've got a team that's capable of doing (that) but like everyone else in the competition, they will all put that demand on themselves."

Accies keeper Michael McGovern, meanwhile, admits his ambition is to play in a winning cup final team.

The 30-year-old Northern Ireland cap picked up two Scottish Cup winner's medals in 2004 and 2007 with Celtic, both times as an unused substitute, and is looking to go one better this season.

He said: "It is an ambition to get a winner's medal for actually playing in the final. It would be brilliant.

"I have been in a few semi-finals and finals over the years and not quite got that winner's medal, apart from sitting on the bench.

"So it would be great to finally get a winner's medal.

"But that is a long way down the line. The focus is just on the Aberdeen game.

"They will want to continue on their success in the cup last season and they will be probably looking for a bit of revenge on us.

"We have to guard against that. We have to concentrate on our performance and if we perform to our maximum we are capable of getting a result."

Alex Neil will assess his entire squad ahead of the game.

The Accies player/manager will see who, if anyone, has bumps and bruises from Saturday's 2-0 Scottish Premiership defeat at Dundee before he picks his side. The league leaders beat Aberdeen 3-0 at New Douglas Park in their Premiership meeting before the loss at Dens Park.
