Aberdeen pair staying at Pittodrie

Calderwood, whose five-year spell in charge ended on Sunday night, claims both players were so angered by his departure that they were considering walking out on the club. But winger Aluko, 20, and goalkeeper Langfield, 29, contacted the Pittodrie hierarchy on Wednesday afternoon to pledge their futures to the Dons. Aluko told RedWeb: "I have two years of my contract left. I am very happy at the club. I have much to thank Jimmy Calderwood for. He has done a lot for my career. "But he has gone and that is football. We all need to move on. I am looking forward to working with whoever takes over the manager's job. I want the fans to know I am not going anywhere." Langfield added: "I am very happy at Pittodrie. It really meant a lot the fans voted for me and I really appreciate the support they have given me. "Jimmy Calderwood did a great job for Aberdeen and we were all shocked at the news on Sunday. However, we must draw a line under it and start looking ahead to the new season, a season that includes European football." Calderwood, who led Aberdeen into the inaugural Europa League on the final day of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League season, claims he urged both Aluko and Langfield to stay put. "Sone, Jamie and some others did come up and express their feelings strongly," he said in the Evening Express. "They were talking about wanting to leave. "But I'm history now. I would rather see them carry on the work I started and ensure the next manager has as strong a team as possible in place as he works to bring success to the club. "I want them to enjoy their summer break then come back and just get on with it." Calderwood used his newspaper column yesterday to accuse Aberdeen's directors of plotting to get rid of him. But reflecting on the week's events at his luxury villa in the Spanish resort of Santa Ponsa, the 54-year-old insisted he had no problem with chairman Stewart Milne or director of football Willie Miller. "Stewart and Willie are good guys and I have no ill feelings towards them," he said. "I never backtrack on things I've said, but I have no problems with the chairman or Willie. "It's their club and they have only done what they think is best for it, so good luck to them. "I appreciate them giving me five years and wouldn't swap a minute of it for anything."
