Aberdeen FC Face Manchester United

Former Dons boss Sir Alex Ferguson will bring Man Utd north next month to provide the Dons' opposition for AFC legend Neil Simpson's benefit match.

An Old Trafford XI will face Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Tuesday 14th August, kick off 7pm, with tickets priced at £15 for adults, £8 for concessions and £5 for Under 12s.

The glamour match has been keenly awaited by supporters since it was announced at the AFC Player of the Year Dinner at the AECC in April where Simmie also received a Special Recognition Award.

The decision delighted Dons fans who have repeatedly shown their desire for the Gothenburg Great to be honoured like all other players who have spent 10 years or more at Pittodrie.

The announcement proved at the time that fans do have the power to influence clubs - something that has been hammered home during the recent months' turmoil in Scottish football.

Organising committee chairman Bob Bain told RedWeb: "Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted to help out his former player and even though the game is just a few days before the start of the EPL season, he has given his assurances that he will bring as strong a squad as possible."Given who the opposition is allied to the fact Simmie is such a fans' favourite, there's no doubt the stadium will be rocking for what will undoubtedly be a fitting occasion for a true AFC legend."

Congratulations once again go to the fans who fought for this outcome in many ways over the years, and to Aberdeen FC for listening to the support and acting in a way that shows they will not pander to any other football clubs or the central belt media when it comes to honouring our legends.
